Body positivity has no set definition. Everyone has a different opinion on what it really means and what the body positive movement should have as its goal. The way I see body positivity is embracing and being comfortable in your own body, no matter your age or dress size. I believe that as long as you are living your life the way you want to and being your best self, there is no reason for anyone to body shame you. Not your body, not your choice!
There's controversy around the body positivity movement as well as the fat positive motion that emerged from it. Some people still believe that to be healthy means you're a size 2. This is not the case. There are plenty of people who are just built smaller with great metabolisms that eat junk food all day long and don't exercise. Small does not equal healthy and healthy does not equal body positive.
Having a balanced diet can greatly improve your body's function and therefore your moods and mental wellness. I also think exercise is fantastic for creating endorphins which in turn leads to a better state of mind. That's really what body positivity comes down to, a state of mind. Is it helpful if some random person doesn't make a comment about your stretch marks or freckles? Of course, but body positivity starts with you and learning to love yourself without outside validation. Boudoir is an amazing step in the body positive journey because it really allows women to physically see themselves from the perspective of someone who pulls out and features their most beautiful aspects.
So whether you're 100% body positive, I'll be honest I try but somedays you just have a bad hair day and it throws you off, or you're just beginning your body positivity adventure step outside of your comfort zone and really take a look at how beautiful you are.
